Cross is coming. Are you ready?
Not really sure how to train for your cross season? Are you tired of feeling like you are just winging it?
Designed with the beginner cyclocross rider who has trained with a heart rate monitor and/or Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE). The primary goal of this training plan is to help prepare for your cyclocross season.
The plan consists of a combination of running, road bike (or cross bike), and cross bike training. The on the road training established endurance while the cross bike training develops skills.
The plan is about 10 hours total per week at its peak (including running). This plan can be used for beginners and advanced racers. The intent of this program is to culminate with a state championship sometime in the December time frame.
Crafted by USA Cycling-certified coach and competitive Masters racer Chuck Kyle, this plan encapsulates his passion for the sport, his experience from years of training and his success coaching dozens of ‘crossers.
This plan begins with a short 4-week prep period that helps the racer transition from their road or MTB season. The plan then goes into several build phases the focus on the key demands of cyclocross prior to peaking and tapering.
Prior to using this plan, you should be able to complete the following workouts:
- 10-minute threshold ride
- 2-hour tempo ride
- 3-hour endurance ride
